President Trump is ordering the Pentagon to establish a new U.S. Space Command. Vice President Mike Pence made the announcement today at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida where the command will be based. Pence also said Trump will sign a new presidential directive soon laying out administration plans to create a U.S. Space Force. Today's move is considered an interim step toward that goal. The plan still faces an uphill battle in Congress where lawmakers have already expressed concerns about the billions of dollars required to create a separate service.
