There will be no change of venue for the trial of a former SAPD officer accused of shooting a teen outside a McDonald's in 2022. A judge on Wednesday ruled that James Brennand will be tried in Bexar County. Brennand reportedly shot 17-year-old Erik Cantu several times after recognizing his car as one that had evaded arrest the night before. Cantu survived. His girlfriend was in the car but wasn't wounded. Brennand is charged with deadly conduct with a firearm and two counts of aggravated assault by a public servant.
