The superintendent of the South San Antonio ISD now has the power to lay off employees in order to deal with a budget deficit. The school board voted on Wednesday to give Superintendent Henry Yzaguirre the say-so. The district has about 1,200 employees and says it needs to cut 20 positions in an effort to help close a $12 million budget shortfall. The reduction in force reportedly won't affect teachers at elementary campuses.
