School Vouchers May Enable Private Schools To Expand Into Rural Areas

A school voucher program being debated by the Texas legislature would possible help private schools expand into rural areas if it passed. Vouchers would allow parents to spend state money on private education. The bill is a priority for Governor Greg Abbott and some Republican leaders, but Democrats and some rural Republicans say vouchers would hurt public schools in areas that have few private schools. There are almost 12-hundred private schools in Texas, most of them in Houston, Dallas, Austin, and other major cities.
