Prosecutors in Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's impeachment trial hope to compel him to testify under oath. Paxton's defense team says he has the same Fifth Amendment right not to testify as any criminal defendant. Paxton's team is asking Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who will preside over the trial in the state Senate, to bar the House impeachment team from issuing a subpoena to force Paxton to testify. The prosecution says Paxton can plead the Fifth on the witness stand to keep from incriminating himself.
