Prison rights advocates are demanding that Gov. Greg Abbott call a special legislative session to install air conditioning in Texas prisons. Dozens of inmates' relatives and former inmates, along with several lawmakers, gathered at the state Capitol on Tuesday to issue the demand. In May, the Texas Senate voted down a House proposal to spend more than half-a-billion dollars to air-condition prisons. More than two-thirds of the state's 100 prisons don't have A/C in their living quarters.
