Richardson ISD is expanding a pilot program that keeps cell phones away from students during the school day. The school district launched the program last fall at Forest Meadow Junior High that placed students' phones in special pouches. Teachers say the program has resulted in less distraction during class, a decrease in discipline problems and cyberbullying, and students talking to each other and playing games at lunchtime. Principals at a high school and three more junior highs say they want to try the program at their campuses.
