Bexar County D-A Joe Gonzales says he's making some policy changes in response to a new bill Governor Greg Abbott signed into law last week. House Bill 17 was enacted as a means to deal with "rogue" prosecutors who said they wouldn't enforce the state's abortion ban or election fraud cases. The new law enables courts to remove such district attorneys for misconduct. Gonzales says he's already phased out his policies of declining charges for minor drug offenses, criminal trespass against homeless people, and other crimes.
