San Antonio police say domestic violence led to a shooting that left a mother and two young children wounded after shots rang out in an Alamo Heights neighborhood. It happened about 7:20 p.m. last night in the neighborhood near Robinhood Place and North New Braunfels Avenue. Police say when they arrived they found the woman and the two toddlers shot. Two other children had broken a window to escape the violence. A man who was believed to be responsible was taken into custody a short time later. The victims underwent surgery overnight. Police later confirmed one of the toddlers had died. The other toddler and the mother remain hospitalized.

“This is infuriating,” said Police Chief William McManus. "With all the resources and effort that we've put into assisting domestic violence victims and trying to prevent these things from happening, here we are tonight with a 1-year-old, a 2-year-old and a 28-year-old mom shot by her intimate partner. This is frustrating that these things continue to happen."
