A massive fire broke out early today in a building that once housed the popular Midnight Rodeo bar off Nacogdoches Road and Thousand Oaks Drive. The 25-thousand-square foot building has been vacant since 2019. Fire Chief Charles Hood says homeless people had apparently been living there and that is what might have sparked the fire. Firefighters had to go into defensive mode after flames spread quickly inside the structure that had undergone various reconstruction and additions over the years. Hood said the risk of trapping or injuring firefighters inside was too great, so they were moved outside to keep the fire from spreading. No injuries were reported.
