President Biden says he has no intention to deploy U.S. military forces to Ukraine. Talking with reporters on a shopping trip, Biden again warned of "enormous consequences" if Russia chooses to invade Ukraine. He said it would be the "largest invasion since World War Two" and could "change the world." Russia has massed more than 100,000 troops on its border with Ukraine. Roughly 8,500 U.S. troops are on standby for possible deployment to Eastern Europe and the Baltic region. They would join troops from other NATO allies in the region.
Meanwhile, a bipartisan group of lawmakers is heading to Ukraine amid a possible invasion by Russia. The chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Gregory Meeks and his fellow lawmakers departed for Belgium and Ukraine today. Meeks will be joined by the delegation that includes ten other representatives. In Brussels, they will meet with NATO and EU representatives to discuss the security situation at Ukraine's border with Russia. In Ukraine, they're slated to meet with senior officials and will reinforce the U.S.'s support for Ukrainian sovereignty.
