VIA Experimenting With Driverless Shuttles

VIA is considering the use of driverless shuttles not too long from now. Riders generally like the idea, but they still have some questions, such as how the machines would deal with weather and roadwork. A researcher with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute says the shuttles move so precisely, it's almost like they're on a rail. The VIA transit center at Brooks on the South Side is likely to be the first testing hub for the autonomous shuttles. The city is looking for federal grant money. The pilot program may roll out as soon as 2022.
