Beaumont Representative Dade Phelan is claiming he will be the next Texas House Speaker. The Republican announced today he got a vast majority of Texas House Republicans and some Democrats to support his candidacy. Phelan was a top lieutenant of retiring Speaker Dennis Bonnen and chair of the House State Affairs Committee. The Texas House will pick a speaker in January.
