Williamson County Plastics Company Fire Prompts Shelter-In-Place Order

There were no reports of injuries, but a shelter-in-place order was issued late today in Walburg, Texas after a fire broke out at a manufacturing facility. Walburg is in Williamson County northeast of Georgetown. A shelter-in-place order was issued on Thursday afternoon for everyone located within a one-mile radius of a chemical plant in Williamson County.

The plant, CPI Products fabricates plastic products.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Department said a shelter in place was issued for a one mile radius. Residents in the area were being instructed to take shelter in their homes and to close all exterior doors & windows, and turn off heating and A/C.

It is unclear what sparked the fire.

Nearly a dozen fire departments sent personnel to fight the fire. The shelter order was lifted after about three-hours.
