Veteran Calls 911 After Seeing 'Christmas Vacation' Inspired Decorations

A Texas homeowner's homage to Christmas Vacation caused a passerby to stop and call 911. The man, a veteran, was driving by when he saw what he thought to be a person hanging off the roof of the home.

The veteran, who was only identified as Alfred, jumped out of his car and ran over to help, grabbing a nearby ladder in a desperate attempt to get the man safely down. The entire scene was captured by the homeowner's Nest security camera.

"I was trying to get him down anyway I can. Except when I started talking to him, he never said nothing!" Alfred told KVUE. "Then I thought, 'Oh my God, I hope he's not dead, lemme call 9-1-1.'"

When he realized the man was nothing more than a mannequin, he had a laugh and was glad that nobody was hurt.

Chris Heerlein said that the decorations were inspired by the hilarious scene from Christmas Vacation when Clark Griswald, played by Chevy Chase, slipped off his roof while putting up Christmas lights. He said that they have no plans to make changes, and instead put a sign outside telling passersby that "Clark G is part of our Christmas display please do not call 911.”

They also said they called Alfred to thank him for his concern and gave him a gift card.
