San Antonio's First CBD Club Opens Tonight as Marijuana Stigma Fades

San Antonio and Texas are finally coming to grips with the fact that legalized medical and recreational marijuana is sweeping the country, as the fist "CBD Club' opens in the city, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

CBD, or cannabid oil, is the non THC part of the marijuana plant.  It does not 'get you high,' but the advantageous health effects of CBD have been known as far back as Chinese herbalologists 3,000 years ago.

"It has a huge stigma against it just because it is in the cannabis world," the CDB Club's Alyssa Walker told 1200 WOAI's Michael Board.  "We are looking to shatter that wall."

The group will hold its first meeting tonight.

Several businesses selling cannabis oil based products for their health benefits have sprung up around Texas.  Since it is not an active ingredient in the marijuana plant, CBD oil is legal.

Walker, for example, says cannabis oil helped wean her off anxiety medication.  It is also seen to have beneficial effects on PTSD patients, as well as chronic pain sufferers, as well has helping treat several chronic diseases.S

he says its a shame that the wide therapeutic benefits of CBD have been kept from her and from others due to the 'stigma' of marijuana still being illegal.

"As a Millennial, I have been told my whole life that if I had anything to do with cannabis, I may as well be living in my parents' basement," she said. "That is not the truth at all."

She says the CBD Club will attempt to answer questions about cannabis oil and related products, like 'will using them set off an alarm at a workplace drug test?

The answer...is no.
