Abbott Says Work Toward a 'Six Figure Salary' for Texas Classroom Teachers

As the 2018 school year gets underway, Gov. Greg Abbott told a group of educators in New Braunfels today that he will be pushing several proposals in the coming session of the Legislature to 'elevate the teaching profession and focus on student outcomes,' News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The governor spoke at Church Hill Middle School, which is in the middle of preparations for the coming school year.Parents and school administrators were also present at the event.  

“The educators that participated in today’s roundtable did what they do best, they taught us what we need to know to improve our schools in Texas,” said Governor Abbott. 

“As we approach this next legislative session, one of my top goals is to improve education by investing more in our teachers and students."

Abbott also said he wants a compensation plan that will put 'the very best educators' in the classroom."I want them to be able to make a six figure salary," he said.
