Police Searching For 'Faux Badge Bandit' Following String Of Bank Robberies

Faux Badge Bandit

California police are frantically searching for a man they dubbed the "Faux Badge Bandit" after he robbed a series of banks across the state. The FBI put out a press release calling for the public's help to identify the man they believe is behind at least four bank robberies.

He is described as a six-foot-tall white male who weighs around 230 pounds and is between 40 and 50 years old. Based on witness statements, the FBI believes the man may be impersonating a police officer.

According to witnesses in some of the bank robberies, the suspect is wearing a 7 point badge on his hip along with a shoulder holster. A handgun has been brandished during the robberies and can also be seen inside the holster.

Surveillance cameras from each bank show the man calmly walking up to the bank teller with a bag and handing them a note demanding cash. He has threatened to shoot their co-workers if they did not follow his instructions.

Police are hoping that the public can track down the bank robber, who made no effort to hide his face from the cameras.

“We think there's someone out there that knows who this person is,” said Sergeant Rich Glennon of Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. “His trademark is a wide brim hat he's also used a ball cap but he's quite identifiable.”
