Illegal Immigrant Smuggling Trucker Pleads Guilty

The man who was found at the wheel of that 18 wheeler that dumped five dozen illegal immigrants onto a north side neighborhood last month today pled guilty to human trafficking conspiracy charges.

Gerardo Carreon now faces ten years in prison.  He remains in custody and will be sentenced in September.

Carreon told a federal judge today he knew exactly what he was doing, in fact, he told the judge he was the second driver in the effort to transport the illegal immigrants from San Antonio to Laredo.

He says the first driver chickened out, and he took the wheel, hauled them to an area near Loop 410 and Broadway behind the Magic Time Machine, and opened the lock, allowing the people to get out of the trailer.

Some of them needed medical care, but unlike the case last summer where 10 illegal immigrants ended up dead, this truck had air conditioning and adequate water.

Federal investigators are checking out Carreon's phone, to try to track down his co-conspirators in Laredo.
