Trip Adviser: The Alamo is 'Unforgettable and Iconic Landmark' for 2018

As we move into what is expected to be the heaviest summer travel season in more than a decade, Americans are remembering the Alamo, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The web site 'Trip Adviser' has named The Alamo as one of the top 15 'unforgettable and iconic' landmarks in America, rated number 14 in the U.S. and the only one in Texas.

"It has almost 16,000 traveler reviews, and it is very highly rated," Elizabeth Monahan of Trip Adviser told News Radio 1200 WOAI.

"Why would you not go to visit there?" one visitor wrote on Trip Adviser.

Together with the Riverwalk, the Alamo is the number one trouist destination in Texas and one of the biggest in the country.

Monahan says people from around the world like the Alamo because of its convenient location, right downtown, hear hotels and Riverwalk attractions, because of the wealth of historical knowledge provided at the shrine, and because of one other very important distinction.

"What we're seeing in the traveler reviews is, they love it because it is free admission."

They also love the living history displays which have become more common at the Alamo, and the plans for a major world-class museum featuring Alamo artifacts.

Other 'unforgettable and iconic' landmarks in the USA include the Golden Gate Bridge, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Gettysburg battlefield.

The top landmark in the world is Angkor Wat in Cambodia, followed by the Plaza Espana in Seville Spain.
