Edison Junior Expelled, Charged After Bringing Gun to School

An Edison High School junior's life took a quick turn for the worse this week, when San Antonio ISD officials say a gun was found in the backpack he took to school, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The District says a student told a teacher after school on Tuesday that the teen had been seen with what looked like 'the butt of a handgun.'

Edison High School police were called, who went to the student's home and found his backpack, which contained an unloaded handgun and no ammunition.

But the student was immediately expelled and was charged with a felony offense as is required by law.

The SAISD says the student made no threats and there is no indication any students were in any danger, but they describe bringing a gun to school, especially in today's climate, as 'incredibly foolish.'

The district thanked the student who reported the incident, and asked all students, teachers, and staffers to 'say something' if they notice any suspicious behavior.
