Tuberculosis Case at San Antonio Brandeis High School

A case of tuberculosis has been discovered in an individual at Brandeis High School in the Northside ISD, News Radio 1200 WAOI reports.

Metro Health District spokeswoman Carol Schlesinger says the school has sent letters to parents urging them to attend a meeting tomorrow night at the school to learn about the case.

She stresses that casual contact with an infected person, like in a school hallway or classroom, is not enough for someone to pass on the disease.

Officials did not say whether the individual with TB is a student, staffer, or teacher, but the individual is off campus and is being treated for the disease.

She says the investigation will take about two weeks to determine the cause of the TB.

"Usually we investigate and discover that people have not been exposed to TB," Schlesinger said.
