SAPD Officer's Car Rammed by Panicking Driver

A San Antonio Police Officer was treated for minor injuries early Tuesday after his patrol car was rammed by a driver who was trying to get away from police, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The police report says officers were trying to rouse the man, who was asleep in his car alongside the 1300 block of Babcock Rd. on the northwest side, because they were afraid he might be injured or sick.

But when the man woke up and saw police, he panicked, floored it, and started driving wildly into the wrong lane of traffic.

Officer Emmanuel Peralta, who was answering the call and was almost at the scene, was hit head on by the panicking driver.

The man tried to limp away in his badly damaged car, but was immediately captured.  He could face felony assault charges.

Officer Peralta was rushed to the hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
