Lawyers Make Final Arguments in Uresti Fraud Trial

Prosecutors and defense lawyers today laid out their final arguments in the month long fraud trial of San Antonio State Senator Carlos Uresti, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

As some of the investors who lost large sums of money in Fourwinds Logistics sat in the courtroom, prosecutors said Uresti 'willfully told investors half truths about the company.'

"Maybe he expected that everything would work out all right in the end, but that is not a defense," prosecutors said.

Uresti is charged with knowingly convincing people to invest in a bogus fracking sand company called Fourwinds Logistics, knowing that the firm was a Ponzi scheme.

But Uresti defense attorney Michael McCrum says Uresti had 'no idea who badly the company was being run,' and he said he is a victim of Fourwinds, just like the investors were.  He said everybody was suckered by the firm's CEO.

If convicted, Uresti faces up to twenty years in prison, and thousands of dollars in fines.
