Students Gather to Discuss the Future of Water

Nealry 1,000 area high school and college students are talking water this wet day, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Its SAWS' annual Confluence Summit, with students presenting research on "Urban Waters, Sustainability in Action," on how to make sure urban areas like San Antonio have enough water to continue to thrive in the future.

"Its an opportunity for them to discuss these topics, see how they compare, and to share their ideas with other students," SAWS' Lilli Gonzalez said.

Activities include a visit by SA Zoo with animals that can be affected by water issues, and a 'Water Geek' game-show style activity focusing on conservation.

"They have water on the mind and are trying to find ways to make sure that we are good stewards of our water, and we are using it correctly in urban settings."

The goal of the students is to make sure that there is enough water for the city to continue to be financially successful when they become adults.

Futurists say in the latter part of the 21st Century, water will be what oil was in the latter part of the 20th Century, the most important resource on the planet.
