Strait Keeps Promise, Meets with Harvey Victims in Rockport

After the 'Hand in Hand' concert at the Majestic Theater earlier this month, country superstar George Strait promised that he would keep up his effort to raise money to help people who were damaged by Hurricane Harvey in the Coastal Bend, and today he made good on that promise, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Strait, Gov. Greg Abbott, and Acting U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Elaine Duke met with Texans and discussed their needs today at the Home Depot in Rockport.

“As I have traveled across Texas in the aftermath of this storm I have been amazed by the resiliency of Texas communities as they come together to rebuild,” said Governor Abbott. “It has been so inspiring to see neighbors helping neighbors through this recovery process, and I thank George Strait for all his amazing work in helping our fellow Texans. I want to assure the people of Rockport, and all those in the affected areas that we will be with them every step of the way throughout this process.”

Strait pointed out that he has a number of friends and relatives in the small beach towns in the Coastal Bend.

"I had seen pictures but pictured don't tell the whole story, and I had to come down and see it," he said.

Abbott thanked Duke for the federal government's quick action following Hurricane Harvey, and promised that state officials will continue to work closely with Harvey victims in South and Southeast Texas to speed badly needed relief.
