UPDATED: Man Who Shot Two SAPD Officers Has Died

Two San Antonio Police Officers were wounded, one is in grave condition, the other in critical condition, in a mid afternoon shootout on Evergreen Street near San Antonio College, officials tell 1200 WOAI news.

Officers poured into the area, but officials say the gunman has been wounded and the situation neutralized.

Police Chief William McManus said the officers were on 'targeted patrol,' when they spotted two suspects.

"As soon as they got out of the car, one of them began shooting," he said.

Despite being wounded, one of the officers returned fire and ended the gunbattle.

The two officers are in critical condition.  The suspect who opened fire died at  the hospital.  The other suspect was arrested.

No immediate word what sparked the shooting.
