A 47 year old driver who apparently didn't realize that Hoefgen Street, just south of downtown, found out the hard way early today, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police say the driver  suddenly smashed through a barrier that was erected specifically because drivers in the past have gotten misdirected after dark and wound up on the train tracks.

This driver also wound up on the tracks, at the time a train was coming.

The man got out of the car just in time to see it demolished and dragged fifty feet by the oncoming freight train.

He'll be okay, but to make things even worse, he is facing potential charges by railroad police.
